Community invited to three free concerts at Saint Joseph Abbey Church

Three upcoming concerts will help usher in the Christmas season at Saint Joseph Abbey Church, located at 75376 River Road, Covington, LA. 

All concerts below are free and open to the public:

  • On Sunday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m., Musica da Camera presents A Joyous Occasion: Music for the Holidays, with Vox Feminæ. Call 504-895-1972 for more information or visit
  • Lessons & Carols, a free performance by Saint Joseph Seminary College's Schola Cantorum, consisting of seminarians from Saint Joseph, takes place Friday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service observed at Christmas to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told traditionally in "lessons," short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, and interspersed with Christmas carols, hymns and choir music. A major choral piece of the program this year will be "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre.  Contact James Shields at or 985-867-2234 for more information.
  • The Southeastern Louisiana University Chorus, Concert Choir and Women's Chorale will join with the Northshore Choral Society in a performance on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2:30 p.m.  The performance is sponsored by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
