Abbey Art Works on the grounds of Saint Joseph Abbey, a Benedictine Monastery in Covington, Louisiana is inviting all painters of any medium to five days of peaceful, quiet painting. Heated and air-conditioned studio space will be available, and artists will be free to work outdoors, weather permitting. Work at your own pace, develop your own imagery. Open studio time for the duration. Enjoy meeting and sharing art and ideas with other artists.
Check in is Monday, Feb. 25 by 4 p.m. Studio will be open late morning Monday so artists can come set up their studio space. Check out is Friday, March 1 after breakfast, no lunch will be served, but the studio is available all day. Meals will begin with dinner on Monday and end with breakfast on Friday. Studio available all day Friday but no lunch will be served.
The retreat includes four nights accommodations in the beautiful, newly renovated Retreat Center just steps from the Art Works studio building. This retreat is for Independent Artistic Development and is not recommended for beginner artists. No formal painting instruction will be given. Artists will set up their own ‘studio space’ and begin independent work. Easels and tables are provided. Artists are asked to bring their own painting supplies. The retreat is limited to 25 artists.
Studio space will be available around the clock beginning at Noon on Monday, February 25 with easels and tables provided. Artists are welcome to bring an extra easel and/or table if they wish.
Artist in Residence for this event, Billie Bourgeois, will be available in the studio 9-11:30 each morning, 2-4:30 each afternoon to help, critique, make suggestions and encourage anyone who wishes it.
Billie has taught drawing and painting, realism and abstraction for over 30 years. She is presently on the faculty at Abbey Art Works and teaches “Painting from the Soul: Intuitive Abstract Painting” once a week throughout the year and in 3-day workshops regionally. Her work is represented by galleries in Atlanta, Dallas. Jackson, MS Alexandria, VA, and Baton Rouge, LA
She is a 21 year member of the Mississippi Art Colony and of 35 Women Abstract Expressionists (national group)
