Introducing a New Retreat Series at the Saint Joseph Abbey Retreat Center:

In Silence


Purpose: To find spiritual renewal and awakening by entering more deeply into the silent depths of God’s presence through exploring the life and writings of the mystics of the Christian tradition.

Format: Extended periods of personal silence and solitude; several periods of group meditation and contemplation; contemplative walk in the Abbey woods; conferences on particular mystic to help facilitate entering into silence; opportunity to pray with the monks.

For Whom: Adult women and men seeking to deepen their spiritual lives and grow in their awareness of God’s presence in their lives. Accommodations available for single persons and couples.

Retreat Costs

The minimum offering for each three-day retreat is $225 per person single occupancy or $212.50 per person double occupancy.

The In Silence Retreat Master is Fr. Ephrem Arcement, O.S.B., a monk of Saint Joseph Abbey. He holds a Ph.D. in Spirituality from the Catholic University of America and is the author of “Intimacy in Prayer: Wisdom from Bernard of Clairvaux” and "In the School of Prophets: The Formation of Thomas Merton's Prophetic Spirituality."
