Students can look at famous paintings and learn something. They can copy them and learn more.

But, how do you get into the minds of those artists? Primary sources for the words of famous artists on painting and teaching are rare.

500 years separates Leonardo da Vinci and Robert Henri. They paint differently. But, what did they say?

See “Painting, Science, and The Life of the Soul” through Leonardo's Treatise on Painting and Robert Henri's The Art Spirit in this new take on the Leonardo’s Legacy class, “New Vision for Painting.”

Leonardo’s Legacy

This teaching program is based on a unique method developed at Abbey Art Works, "Leonardo's Legacy: Painting, Science, and the Life of the Soul," where Da Vinci's own words, seen through modern science's knowledge of visual perception, has shown that we all have the tools to draw and paint successfully.

Students learn the importance of mindful preparation for the learning experience, the nature of the creative model, the path to “the flow,” and how our brains teach us to paint.

Each class includes hands-on work, demonstrations, careful explanation and attention. Materials limited to charcoal and newsprint pad, five oil colors, canvas pad, palette knife, solvent and brush. Other materials supplied.

This course is for anyone who wants to paint for the first time; for those who always wanted to give it a try; for those who want a fresh start; and, yes, even for those who teach others. Space is limited.
