Abbey Art Works Hosts Third Guild of St. Luke Lecture Celebration

Auseklis Ozols, renowned artist and founder and director of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts will be the featured guest lecturer next month during a day celebrating the Guild of St. Luke, a membership outreach program at Abbey Art Works located at Saint Joseph Abbey. St. Luke is the patron saint of artists.

Ozols’ lecture is the signature event during the Feast of St. Luke on Thursday, October 18th, which also includes mass at the Abbey Church, lunch at the newly renovated retreat center, and an open house at Abbey Art Works. Ozols’ lecture begins at 2 p.m. The cost to attend the day is $25, and is open to prospective and current members of the Guild and their guests. Visit here to register. Auseklis Ozols is a highly sought after portraitist, still life and landscape painter, with portraits and murals throughout the south including the Louisiana Governor's Mansion in Baton Rouge. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine arts, and Temple University. His work is represented in public and private collections internationally. In New Orleans, he has received the Delgado Award from the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Strength in Age Award, and the Community Arts Award from the Arts Council of New Orleans. He is also the author of three Rex Proclamations, and has paintings in the permanent collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Jersey State Museum, and the Latvian Museum of Art in Riga, Latvia where he was born. Ozols is inspired by the beauty that surrounds him, and continues to paint the colorful flora and majestic live oaks of Louisiana with unmatched technique, flair and enthusiasm.
