2019 DEO GRATIAS TAKES PLACE SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5TH

Saint Joseph Seminary College, the largest seminary college in the country, will host its annual fundraising gala, Deo Gratias, Latin for “Thanks be to God,” on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event takes place on the beautiful grounds of Saint Joseph Abbey, located at 75376 River Road, in Covington, La. Tickets may be purchased at www.saintjosephabbey.com. Proceeds benefit the Seminary College and will go toward the formation and education of the next generation of Church leaders in the Gulf South region.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with Vespers (evening prayer) in the Abbey Church with the Benedictine monks and the Seminary Schola Cantorum. The outdoor gala begins at 7 p.m. and will feature local chefs and farm-to-table cuisine. Desserts will be provided by Zoë's Bakery and Acquistapace’s Covington Supermarket will offer fine wines and cheeses, while guests enjoy the sounds of the Patrick Rosenow Quartet.

A patron party exclusive to sponsors begins at 5 p.m. in the Monastic Refectory. Patron Party tickets are required. Sponsors for Deo Gratias will enjoy a pre-gala reception hosted by Abbot Justin Brown, O.S.B., and Fr. Gregory Boquet, O.S.B., President-Rector of the Seminary College, in the beautiful Monks’ Refectory which features floor to ceiling murals by Dom Gregory de Wit. Sponsors will also enjoy reserved seating at the gala.

Guests can participate in a silent auction featuring a variety of items, including a game package for the LSU vs. Texas A&M football game on November 30th. The package includes four game tickets in a prime seating area, four pre-game field passes, an autographed football, and an excellent parking pass for this much-anticipated game.

This year’s featured auction artwork is "Time, Place, and Eternity Somehow Meet" by Denise Hopkins. Voted the “Northshore’s Best Local Artist” for the past three years, Hopkins has recently added abstract, non-representational works to her collection of bird and nature paintings. When she’s not in her studio, Hopkins can be found painting live at wedding receptions and corporate events in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and across the country.

Raffle prizes include $500 in cash, a one-night stay at the Southern Hotel with Oxlot 9 gift certificates, and an overnight stay at Annadele's Plantation with complimentary breakfast. Raffle tickets can be purchased online or at the event.
