Saint Joseph Abbey will host “A Day of Coronations,” a free performance featuring Southeastern Louisiana University’s combined choirs of their Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, and the University Chorus, along with the Northshore Choral Society. It takes place Sunday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. in the Abbey Church, located at 75376 River Road in Covington.

The premiere mixed ensemble will open the concert with one of Tomas Luis de Victoria’s most famous motets O Magnum Mysterium. This will be followed by J.S. Bach’s cantata Weinen, Kleinen, Sorgen, Sagen (Weeping, worrying, lamenting, fearing) BWV 12  with string orchestra and oboe solo. After a short pause, the combined ensembles will perform George Frideric Handel’s fourth Coronation Anthem, My Heart is Inditing and W.A. Mozart’s Coronation Mass both with a full orchestra.

Conductors from Southeastern Louisiana University include Alissa Mercurio Rowe, Director of Choral Activities; Amy Prats, Music Education Instructor; and Dakota Jenkins, graduate student conductor.
