Rest in Peace, Fr. Peter Hammett, O.S.B.
It is with profound sadness that the monastic community of Saint Joseph Abbey announces the death of our dear brother, Fr. Peter Hammett, O.S.B.
Fr. Peter passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by his brother monks and his family.
The bells of the Abbey tolled beginning at 1:00 p.m. today, and the monastic community gathered in prayer for the repose of his soul.
On Tuesday, September 15, Vespers for the reception of Fr. Peter's body will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Abbey Church. The public is welcome.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 16, at 11:15 a.m. in the Abbey Church, followed by a procession to the Abbey Cemetery, where Fr. Peter will be laid to rest. A reception will be held in the Student Refectory immediately following the burial.
Due to Abbot Gregory's recent knee surgery, Archbishop Emeritus Aymond will preside at the Mass, and Fr. Charles Benoit will preach the homily.
We ask for your continued prayers for the repose of Fr. Peter’s soul and for the consolation of his family, friends, and brother monks.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
