Abbey Art Works, located on the beautiful grounds of Saint Joseph Abbey, presents its upcoming slate of workshops for the summer. Discounts are available for most Guild of St. Luke members, a yearly membership program at Abbey Art Works. The Guild of St. Luke is open to all, including arts organizations, professional artists, teachers, working artists, patrons, collectors, scholars, historians and philosophers. Manuscript Illumination
Six Saturdays in June and July: June 2, 9, 16, 23, July 7, 14, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Manuscript illumination is the process in which text is accompanied by decorations and illustrations. Led by instructor Lyn Taylor, she will lead participants through the process of manuscript painting and gold leaf on paper. Artists of all skill levels will learn how to produce their own symbolic life journey page.

Leonardo's Legacy: Painting, Science & the Life of the Soul
Wednesdays, June 27 – August 1, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This six-week introductory course provides a solid grounding in the Atelier method. Experience drawing and painting "from the beginning". Get ready to embark on a lifetime journey of pleasure, creativity, and spirituality.

Landscape & Cityscape Painting Class
Tuesdays, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Happening now through June 26
Tuition is $180/month

Join nationally renowned artist and teacher Alan Flattmann for these informative new classes that will help people hone their skills as an artist. Students may choose to work in pastel, oil or watercolor. Flattmann stresses the basic principles of composition, drawing, color and technique that apply to any style of representational painting. Landscape & Cityscape Painting Class in Pastels Weekend Workshop
June 29 – July 1
Tuition is $300. Lodging and meals available in the Christian Life Center for $225 per person.

Flattmann will also lead this three-day weekend workshop and retreat at the Abbey. In addition to the basic principles of composition, drawing, color and technique, Flattmann will show how he creates bold pastel paintings with a multi-layered technique on pumice and sanded papers. In addition to daily demonstrations, student can expect personal attention with informal critiques throughout the day.
