Nicholls State Camerata performance will benefit Abbey flood relief

The Nicholls State Camerata will perform in concert on Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, located at 415 Union St., Morgan City, La. The concert will benefit Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College, which was inundated by nearly two feet of water from overflow of the Bogue Falaya River in Covington on March 11.   Thirty-one buildings and structures suffered varying degrees of damage,  as well as other apostolates, including the retreat center.  The concert is free and open to the public.  A love offering will be taken up to help the abbey and seminary in its great need.

The Nicholls Camerata is a chamber ensemble comprised of members of the string program at Nicholls, an intensive program of instruction started by James Alexander in 2007.  Currently attracting students from all over the world, the Nicholls Camerata performs without conductor and its repertoire ranges from Baroque to Modern. The ensemble traveled to Brazil in January of 2015 where it was featured as Orchestra-in-Residence at the prestigious International Music Festival of Santa Catarina in Jaragua do Sul.   The group is well known to many in the area, having played at Sacred Heart Church several times in the past.
