Musica da Camera opens fall season at Saint Joseph Abbey

Saint Joseph Abbey hosts the first concert of the 2016-17 season for early music ensemble Musica da Camera. "FAVORITES - Music We Liked Performing Over the Past 50 Years" takes place at the Abbey Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. It is free and open to the public. The Abbey Church is located at 75376 River Road in Covington.

“We will perform music that we particularly have liked performing many times during the last 50 years of Musica da Camera. This includes songs, dances and improvisations we enjoyed so much, including the beginning section on the music of Guillaume de Machaut, sections of music from the Carmina Burana manuscript, and compositions by Walther von der Vogelweide and Raimbaut de Vaqueiras. We hope you enjoy hearing this music as much as we’ve enjoyed performing it,” said Milton Scheuermann, founder of the group.

New Orleans Musica da Camera is the oldest surviving early music organization in the country, founded in 1966. Researching and performing the music of the 10th through 16th centuries, the group is dedicated to making that music current and living for the listeners of the 21st century.
