Construction Begins on New Housing for Seminarians

Interior demolition of Savio Hall (the old library) began after Labor Day. The work is in preparation of a renovation that will return the building to its original use as a much-needed residence hall for one-third of the seminarians who regretfully are still being housed in temporary trailers more than five years after the March 2016 Flood. The much-anticipated reopening is scheduled for Fall 2022.

Furnishings for the 48 dorm rooms were made possible by our donors’ generous contributions to the 2021 Saint Joseph Appeal. Throughout our 130-year history, Saint Joseph has been a faithful protector for us as he was for Jesus and Mary. His intercession has brought countless blessings upon the Abbey and the Seminary. The fruits of our labor have seen over 950 men ordained to serve the Church as priests.

Imagine how different the Catholic Church in the Gulf South region would be today if not for the presence of Saint Joseph Seminary.
